Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been out for a week now and it's just pure insanity! The amount of work Dice has put into this game clearly shows and they didn't kid around with it. Bad Company 2 is Dice's answer to Infinity Ward's masterpiece and does some stuff tons better than Modern Warfare 2.
Gameplay: The online gameplay of Bad Company 2 is pure insanity and it's how modern warfare games should be done. For those that have played Crysis Wars will certainly see 1 similar thing and that's the whole "capture key points" on the map deal. There are 4 gameplay types in Bad Company 2 and they are: Squad Deathmatch (4 squads each made up of 4 members in a deathmatch game), Squad Rush (I think it's squad rush), Rush (you have defenders defending key points from the offenders who try to destroy key points on the map to push the defenders back until there are no more spawn points), Conquest (Crysis Wars-style key-point capture). I haven't tried the Squad-based gameplays but Rush is my favorite out of the 2 that I do play. The fights are over the top and are filled with action. It's loud, it's action-packed, and it hits you hard like a freakin' brick wall. To put it simply, Crysis Wars meets Modern Warfare 2. Graphics: The graphics are no joke. ABSOLUTELY no joking around with the graphics in this game. To me, they rival Crysis. This game is really gorgeous and does require a beefy graphics card. The recommended graphics card is in fact a GTX 260 or Radeon 4870. There's a good reason for needing a high-end graphics card for this game too. Now, have you ever hated the fact that in a shooter game, you shoot a rocket at a wall and nothing happens? Well in BC2, walls aren't your savior anymore. If you're hiding behind a wall of a house and a tank round hits it, not only is that wall absolutely gone but you're as good as dead. Everything crumbles in this game (or almost everything) and cowering behind a wall isn't a safe option anymore. Gravity affects your rounds, thus making sniping more difficult. Sound: Truly, the sounds in this game are amazing. Guns have a beefy sound to them and none of them sound like little BB guns. Heck, even the handguns sound beefy and don't turn me down. Tank rounds will make you stop dead in your tracks and will also have you running away in fear (I mean come on, you don't expect to single-handedly take down a tank right?) Misc: One thing that I'll truly love Dice for over Infinity Ward is the inclusion of dedicated servers for online gameplay. Infinity Ward's IWNet was a total disgrace to one of THE biggest games in the world and will continue to be a disgrace until Infinity Ward gets it right. I also forgot to mention that there is the whole level-up sha-bang in this game with the all-famous weapon unlock system. You gain experience for just about anything in this game (kill an enemy, capture a key point, repair vehicles, heal and revive teammates, refill team's ammo, vehicle passenger assists, knifing, mastering weapons, etc. The sheer amount of weapons that need to be unlocked guarantees that the replay value is high. Add in the ranking system and you have a game that'll take you quite a long time to finish up. There are 4 classes to choose from (called kits in the game): Engineer (specialty is repairing vehicles and uses SMGs and silenced weaponry), Medic (specialty is healing teammates and reviving using defib unit. Weapon of choice is the LMG), Assault (specialty is ammo refill and weapon of choice is the assault rifle class), and Recon (specialty is....well, recon and weapon of choice is sniper rifle). Dice did a good job balancing all the classes to where no one class overpowers all. Each class has flaw against the other and it clearly shows in game. So, for those asking the question: "Bad Company 2 or Modern Warfare 2?" Here's my answer. IF you like to take your time, love gargantuan maps and love to strategize HEAVILY and play with a certain amount of realism, then Bad Company 2 is most likely what you want. For those that want a more arcade style of shooter game and doesn't take a lot of time to learn then Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 is your basic style of FPS game while Bad Company 2 requires players to use a bit more mental power to get good at. Also, teamwork is needed more in BC2 than in MW2. While I do love Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2 gets more kudos for: A) more realism B) HUGE teams (biggest number of people I've seen in a server is 32 total players making the game a 16 vs. 16. Console limit is 24.) Aside from all the awesome things, BC2 does suffer from glitches and bugs (mainly connection problems). Once you get passed that and actually get into a server, be ready for some A LOT of mayhem. All in all, a fantastic game and should be more than enough to satisfy your craving for modern warfare games.

I actually did an in-store pre-order at Gamestop (meaning I didn't get the beta key). However, it did release yesterday and I was pretty much playing it non-stop trying to get used to it and making my controls similar to Modern Warfare 2. I will say this though: this game has enough potential to make Modern Warfare 2 look pretty bad. As I delve into it more and more, I'll be posting up a full review on what my thoughts were.

Modern Warfare 2 is great but is more of an arcade-style of shooter game. Bad Company 2 is a bit more realistic and the sheer size dwarfs Modern Warfare 2. Basically, kids might be turned off by Bad Company 2 since it takes time to complete a game. Those looking for a more strategic shooter will like Bad Company 2.
Also, computer hardware requirements for Modern Warfare 2 aren't as huge as Bad Company 2. So, for your son, Modern Warfare 2 might be the better choice. For you Stinkin, Bad Company 2 might be something you'll enjoy.
